Democracy in Redbridge is broken
Do you expect your councillors to have a voice within the Council Chamber? Well, you would be wrong! Redbridge Council is run using the so-called ‘Strong-Leader-Model’ which means that many important decisions are taken by just 10 councillors (the Council Leader and Cabinet). The other elected councillors, of all political parties, and representing a huge percentage of the electorate, have little input into making decisions. They may not even be able to have a say or a vote on issues affecting us.
Is this democratic?
This petition has been set up to help fix local democracy in our borough. The Localism Act 2011 gives voters the power to make the Council hold a referendum to decide if it should be run using a more democratic, committee system. This petition is non political.
